Theoretical Approach

I believe each client, couple, and family is unique, and therapy must be flexible according to the personality and needs of the client(s). Therefore, I pull from multiple counseling modalities in order to meet the needs of each client. The modalities I use and am passionate about are:

Gottman, Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). My faith is the most important thing in my life, so I also have a huge heart for Christian faith-based counseling. I will incorporate the bible and its teachings as much as possible. Life, marriage, everything just goes better when we live our lives according to the infallible, living Word of God.

While I enjoy working with all clientele, I have a special passion for working with couples, especially implementing Gottman method. From a Christian perspective, I embrace the philosophy that "marriage is not for our happiness, it is for our holiness," which is from the book 'Sacred Marriage' by Gary Thomas. I find joy and success helping couples learn healthy conflict resolution and communication skills as well as rebuilding their friendship and intimacy. I believe per biblical principles, we need to focus on being the best spouse, not having the best spouse. Remember, "the grass is greener where you water it."

I also specialize in working with women, co-dependency issues, boundary setting, and those with anxiety issues.

I believe it's also important to do family therapy. When one family member is suffering, it affects everyone. Having the ability to bring everyone together can do wonders for the healing of the individual/family.

Being a military spouse, I understand the special struggles military members face. My husband is from Nicaragua, so I also understand the dynamic of a multicultural marriage. Growing up, my dad was a policeman for many years. So, I also understand the unique situations and difficulties our law enforcement members and their families face.
